Following the symposium, ICOMOS proposed that April 18 be recognized as World Heritage Day to celebrate cultural heritage and promote its conservation.
• The first World Heritage Day was observed in 1983 and since then, it has been celebrated every year with a different theme. The theme for World Heritagee Day 2021 was “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures”, which aimed to recognize the complex and diverse nature of cultural heritage and the need to embrace this diversity to build a better future.

It is also an opportunity for governments, organizations, and individuals to commit to preserving and protecting cultural heritage for future generations.
