History Of World Heritage Day :-

World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is observed on April 18 every year. The day was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.

The aim of World Heritage Day is to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and to encourage people to preserve and protect historical sites and monuments. It is also a day to celebrate cultural diversity and the achievements of humanity in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

The idea for World Heritage Day originated from a symposium organized by ICOMOS in Tunisia in 1982. The symposium was focused on the topic of Cultural Heritage as a Basic Human Need. Following the symposium, ICOMOS proposed that April 18 be recognized as World Heritage Day to celebrate cultural heritage and promote its conservation.

The first World Heritage Day was observed in 1983 and since then, it has been celebrated every year with a different theme. The theme for World Heritagee Day 2021 was “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures”, which aimed to recognize the complex and diverse nature of cultural heritage and the need to embrace this diversity to build a better future.

World Heritage Day is celebrated by organizing various events and activities such as tours of historical sites, exhibitions, seminars, and cultural performances. It is also an opportunity for governments, organizations, and individuals to commit to preserving and protecting cultural heritage for future generations.
